Milan Airport – Malpensa MXP

It is the main airport in the northern part of Italy with capacity to serve 22 million passengers a year. It ranks second in degree of importance in relation to Italian airports.

The airport of Malpensa is located in Varese and 50 km northwest of Milan.

It consists of the following terminals:
Terminal 1: International flights, intercontinental and national.
Terminal 2: Low-cost and charter flights flights.

It has a railway station attached to Terminal 1 which guarantees the direct link between the airport and the Milan Cadorna station.

Terminal 1 was built in 98 and Terminal 2 in the 60’s and expanded in the 90s.

Terminal 1

The landing area is the passenger services such as pharmacy, bank, ATM, exchange office, VAT refund, newsstands, beauty center (Turkish bath, sauna and sun bath), bookstore, laundry and luggage door.

In the train station also has a supermarket and tourist information desks.

Near the Travel Agency, you can make hotel reservations, buy bus tickets and train and car hire.

Terminal 2

In the arrivals hall you will find pharmacy, banks, post office, exchange office, newsstand and bookstore.

You will also find a post hotel reservations, buy bus tickets and train.

The two terminals are connected by a free bus service with a frequency of 15 minutes that works 24h.

Directions

By train:

The airport is connected to Milano Cadorna station for a rail service called Malpensa Express or with Trenitalia.

Malpensa Express
Connects the airport’s Terminal 1 with the Cadorna station in Milan and intermediate stops are: Milano Bovisa, Saronno and Busto Arsizio.

The frequency is 30 minutes and the journey time is 40mins.

Trenitalia

Trains depart from Gallarate station. Passengers are taken to this station with buses leaving from Terminals 1 and 2 and vice versa.

Shuttle service:

Service that connects the airport to the central station of Milan with the frequency of 20 min.

Stops are made at the terminals of Malpensa and Linate, Milano Fiera Milano Centrale and Cascina Gobba.

The pass can be purchased in airport terminals or with the driver.

By car:

For those who come from Milan, just go through the autostrada of lakes A8 toward Varese. Take the exit for Malpensa.

It is available a rental service car with driver, lying on the floor landing, B area near the exit 6. Open from 7: 30h to 2h. See the company website here.

At the gates of the output terminals there is a taxi rank.

Terminal 1: landing floor, doors 4:05.
Terminal 2: in front of the arrival station.

By bus:

A bus service connects the airport to Central Station Milano (Milano Centrale) and also the cities of Torino, Lugano, Chiasso, Genoa, Novara, Como, Menaggio, Lake Maggiore, Domodossola, Gallarate, Castelnovate, Brescia, Begamo, Bologna and Verona.

The airport travel time to the central station of Milan is about 50 min.

Interconnection Malpensa – Linate Airport

The course of 75 min is performed by a bus Malpensa Shuttle.

Frequency of 1: 30h from 8am to the central station of Milan and from 9: 30h from the airport. Stop at Cascina Gobba is performed under notice.
